Just In Cases

I've had my eye on a set of 3 suitcases from Paper Source. I wanted them in red, but all that is left online is pink, aqua (or "pool"-- ooh la la), orange. Went to PS in Oak Park Easter weekend, and they only had two of the three sizes which were a bit beat up from being on display. This is all for Q's toddler room which is pretty far off still, but I have been fantasizing about it for probably 7 months. It will be mushrooms and woodland creatures, and I'm going to paint creepy trees on her wall a la The Black Apple.

Long story long, I found these instead and I love them even better! I ordered them from Land of Nod, and they got here with a quickness. The item name is "Just in Cases" which alone got me. Sucka. There are only two of them, and the inside lining isn't as cute, but the polka dots make them worth it.

Also, something cool we got this week for Q: a Radio Flyer Retro Rocket. Although I think I like it more than she does. We played with it outside today and seemed to like it more when I pushed her down the driveway than pushing herself. Que sera sera.
Off to craft my brains out. D-day is 21 days and counting...

Monday Doo-Dads & Tidbits

I'm official! I received my super cute GIRL LAND BANNER from Sweet Jessie today to put on my craft show table. I love it so much. And inside were some lovely little extras including cutie petootie push pins and a NKOTB trading card!!!! What a lovely Monday my package made. That Jessie.

I have also started making some cutie pie paperweights with some vintage strawberry fabric my mom found in her sewing basket. My mom made me a dress out of that fabric when I was like 8. Wish I still had it!

This weekend was jam packed. I crafted until 3am Fri and Sat. Saturday afternoon was spring cleanup in the garden and "date night" to see Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) at Main Art. A verrry good movie. Started out a wee bit slow but then picked up very nicely. Sunday was Cindy's baby shower. Bought her some stuff from Etsy and made an emergency call to Karen to pick up this cute hooded towel last minute. She made all Q's crib bedding with House Inc. fabric, and the girl is a sewing goddess! Sunday afternoon was more crafting, garden pickup, and also power walking with my neighbor/friend, Lindsay.

Through boxes and boxes of pics from my grandmas house, my mom filled a Ziploc baggy for me. She knows I have weirdo taste in old photographs. These are three of my favorites. The grandfather clock is the saddest because I will never probably ever hear it chime again. And the photos all smell like my grandma's house.

Micetsy now has a myspace page. I resist myspace because I feel too old, but I created a Girl Land account. I have another personal page too (eek) because my friend from Cali is on there, but I think I might get rid of it. We'll see. Anywho, I'm feeling a tad inadequate because they posted the other vendors chosen for the craft extravaganza, and they are all so ridiculously talented!!! Oy vey.

Now for the best news of the week...the first Oberweis in the state of Michigan is going to be DOWNTOWN ROYAL OAK!!!! OMG, this is dangerous stuff. Good thing it's not a drive-thru like Jessie has, but nevertheless, I still almost peed my pants. I'm thinking we may even start getting our milk delivered. I don't know what they put in the stuff to make it taste so good. Hmm.

A Kid-Free Vacation & I'm IN!

So true story-- my friend, Lisa, lives in St. Paul, MN. We've been friends since we were 15. At 15, we actually became pen pals through our love of NKOTB (no joke, don't laugh! I see you laughing). Fast forward 17 years, several visits back and forth, and Lisa is engaged to be married in the fall. Now September can't come fast enough for the hubby who has been jonesin' for a vacation-- Q-free at that.

We booked our flight on NWA for a great rate and are staying at this supa fly hotel called Chambers in Minneapolis. Check it out! Hubby's been right on track with his hotel picks, so I hope this makes the grade as well. Chose this hotel when were in Provence and this little gem when we were in Toronto. He's got a good eye. I'm sure the dining reservations will be next. He's very excited-- can you tell? Of course, I am too, but more so to see my old friend get hitched.

On a crafty note, I was lucky enough to be one of the thirty chosen few (of 60 apps!) for the upcoming Micetsy Craft Extravaganza. I've been furiously crafting. Between yesterday and today, I've painted 6 trinket boxes, made 3 portable placemats, and put together 4 gift tag sets. I used birthday cards given to my grandmother from my mom when she was like 2 or 3 (they were signed by my grandpa) as my inspiration. this one 'dorable?

Ok, off to snooze. Big (and not fun) day tomorrow. Bon soir, mes amis.

My Gram...

Used to bring us google-eyed puffy stickers and little plastic cars in small crinkly Rite Aid bags when she and my grandpa came to visit.

Took my brother and me to Deer Acres when we stayed with them one summer. I hope they still have those turqoise fiberglass castles there.

Would every once in awhile remind me of the time she and Grandpa babysat, and I pushed toilet paper down the drain of my parent’s bathroom sink. She liked to used her little finger to illustrate.

Had droopy eyes that Quinn and I inherited (I wouldn’t trade them for anything).

Made sure the M&M dispenser that Grandpa made was always full when we visited.

Had the coolest organ and was never crabby when we wanted to play it.

Was in a restaurant with her sister about 5 years ago. When they went to pay the bill, a man, to whom they had briefly spoken, had already paid for their meal because he thought they were so cute (with names like Winnie and Millie, how could they not be?).

Made sure the garage door would magically open for expectant visitors (she’d sit in her blue chair and watch out the window with opener in hand).

Would be sitting in that same blue chair when we’d come over Christmas night under her pastel-lit Christmas tree after making sure ample treats had been laid out on the dining room table.

Was a die-hard Lawrence Welk fan.

Loved a fuzzy navel now and again.

Always had a little twinkle in those droopy eyes.

Will be missed very very much….xoxo

April (Snow) Showers

Gotta love Michigan weather. It was 80 degrees 2 weeks ago, it’s been 30s this week and raining/snowing too. Lucky us! It’s making us all a little crazy. Also, still waiting to see if I’m in the Micetsy craft extravaganza. It’s killing me!!!! I am hoping to find out by tomorrow.

I received my custom order from Jen which was a portable changing station for Miss Q which cheered me up. Isn’t this paper doll material sweet as H-E-double hockey sticks??? And she went out of her way to find the polka dot material for me. She’s also finished these two lovely sets which will be gifts for my two pregger friends who are due this month and next. Her shop name is Pearly Grey and it is addictive if you have a little one to buy for!

We saw two movies this weekend: Blades of Glory and The Namesake. The former was pretty goofy, but there were some funny parts and lines. Will Arnett and Amy Poehler were pretty entertaining. The latter was, eh. I loved Monsoon Wedding. It’s one of those movies you can watch over and over. The Namesake was just ok. It kept me relatively interested. Kal Penn, who I totally have a crush on, was disappointing. I had higher expectations for him. The performances by Irfan Khan and especially Tabu as Ashima were wonderful though. On DVD, we’ve recently seen Children of Men (SO GOOD!) and The Holiday (SO BAD!). No wonder JT dumped her. :)

We also ate at Food Dance Cafe last weekend. It’s one of the hubby’s favorite when we are on the west side of the state. We both ate the herb roasted trout with swiss chard. Man, it was good.

As for the boob tube, I am completely disappointed with the way Prison Break ended. The chemistry between Michael and Sara has completely waned. I’m hoping there is an end to the series somewhere in the near future especially since my 3rd fave guy (after Wentworth and Tweener) is now gone (RIP Kellerman!). As for Lost, I almost gave up on it, but it’s recaptured my interest. What’s up with Locke? And if Kate doesn’t jump on Sawyer soon, I’m going to hurt someone. But it looks like she’s going to next week. Bout damn time. We also have Entourage and The Sopranos Tivo’ed but haven’t had a chance to watch it.

Have a good week (and weekend), kids! And hi to Marlene and Brenda since I heard they check in every now and again. Helloooooo!!!

New Office, 30 Rock, and Andy Barker P.I. on tonight! I've decided Tina Fey is my absolute hero.
